Is PRP Right for You? Learn How You Could Benefit

Your body does a great job of healing and repairing itself after an injury. As amazing as that natural healing system may be, sometimes it needs a little extra help to repair and restore itself following an injury or other medical problem. That’s when platelet-rich plasma injections can help.

Also called PRP, platelet-rich plasma helps jumpstart your body’s healing processes, providing the boost your body needs to regenerate and restore healthy tissue. At Simple Men's Health in West Palm Beach, Florida, we offer PRP injections for patients with a wide array of injuries and chronic medical conditions to help our patients enjoy optimal wellness at every age. Here’s how PRP works and how it just might help you

What is platelet-rich plasma?

Platelets are components of blood that play an important role in healing. Each platelet contains special proteins called growth factors, which interact with cells, triggering healing responses that help repair damaged tissues throughout the body. Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is a blood product that’s created by separating platelets in a blood sample, then reintroducing the enriched blood product into the body at or near the site of injury.

At Simple Men's Health, we start by taking a sample of your blood, typically from your arm. The blood is placed in a special device that processes it, separating the platelets from the rest of the blood. Then, the platelets are recombined with the remaining blood before being injected back into your body.

How PRP works

PRP contains a higher concentration of platelets than what’s normally found in blood — as much as five times higher. That means your body gets an infusion of special growth factors right where they’re needed most.

Once PRP is injected, those growth factors go to work right away, repairing damaged cells and promoting the development of new cells to help heal the area, without medications or other artificial therapies. Because PRP is derived from your own blood, you don’t have to worry about allergic reactions, rejection, or other dangerous interactions. Recovery is fast, and the only real side effect is some temporary discomfort around the injection site, which you can have with any injection.

What can PRP treat?

PRP therapy has been widely used to treat osteoarthritis, but today, researchers are finding it can be a safe, effective treatment for other conditions, as well, like:

PRP is also frequently used following some types of surgical procedures to speed healing at and near the surgical site. It can also be used to rejuvenate aging skin and to help repair injuries related to sports and work activities.

What is PRP treatment like?

Complete PRP treatment is performed right in our office, from drawing the blood to processing the PRP to reinjecting the final product back into your body. Afterward, you’ll be able to go home and resume most of your activities. Typically, it’s a good idea to avoid straining the area that’s been treated, so it has plenty of time to heal. We’ll provide you with instructions depending on the area you’ve had treated.

After treatment, you might have some minor discomfort or swelling near the injection site. Both of these are natural reactions, but the good news is, at Simple Men’s Health, we use clinical PRP (C-PRP), the next generation in PRP therapy designed to help minimize post-injection inflammatory responses, so you can enjoy greater comfort. C-PRP also offers a platelet recovery rate of up to 95%, which means the PRP we reinject will have more growth factors — and better effect — compared with traditional PRP therapy.

Is PRP right for me?

PRP helps your body help itself, by promoting natural healing responses without using drugs or other “artificial” therapies or surgery. Since PRP therapy uses your own blood, it can be a great choice for just about anyone. The best way to know if it’s right for you and your goals is to schedule a consultation at Simple Men’s Health. Our team can review your medical records, your health needs, and other factors to help you decide if PRP therapy is a good option for helping you achieve optimal health and wellness.
